Dartfrord Lions Bomfire Night
The item above is the recording of our meeting with President Raggs and Vice President Avtar of the Dartford Lions Club. This was their proposal to get us to film the vent for them. However, the main objective of the meeting was to get an idea of what we can expect what types of equipment and planning to film the Dartford Fireworks.
This whiteboard has been our main pouring of planning for the Dartford Fireworks event. It has been used for reminders such as social media platforms fo my colleagues Megan and Liberty. We also have put the times of the event on the right that are one of the top priorities to be punctual on the day.
This is a set than me and Elliot Offwood created for the Dartford Fireworks event. We used high powered lights and photography reflectors to focus the lights at a certain objects on the opposite side of the set. By using these high powered lights We was able to create a sharp looking image for our Canon 750D to capture.

This updated list shows the progress of the planning for the event, for this big event there is so much to plan for which is very new to me and the class. So this is why we did so much leading up to the event. Whilst doing this
The two images above show the Floor Plan I created for the Dartford Fireworks event. The image on the left was created by Rags THE PRESIDENT OF THE DARTFORD LIONS CLUB. From the perspective of a professional, I did not see Raggs floor plan to be good enough for a large production. This is why I made these two draft images to show my team to see what they think and with a couple of changes I created the new, clearer floor plan below.
This is the final site plan for the Dartford Fireworks event. I made this plan through Apple 3D maps. I then I added all of the extra images to show what type of stalls and rides there will be at the event. I also decided to label them just to be clear to everyone when they are gauging where to shoot.
Here is the proof for my Drone insurance and public liability that is the most important type of paperwork when flying a UAV in any public place. I have used CoverDrone a couple of times now and they are excellent with their customer care and prices which for me is imperative. One of the main great things about CoverDrone they offer daily, weekly or monthly UAV insurance. From a freelancers perspective, it is great because I really use my drone for filming in public for more than a day or two each month.
Day 1
This is me filming with the Black Magic Pocket Cinema 4K Camera. This was my first time actually filming with this camera so I was learning how to use it during our semi practise shoot. It is a very complex camera to operate however doing this will help me in the future because from now, I will be using this camera for all projects that I do at college.
It took me a bit longer to set up my drone because I wanted to scout the area on foot to see the obstacles I need to log before I begin to fly. Once I was in the air I first went straight up to 300 feet, I did this before I took horizontal flight to film.
Here are some of the photos I took on day 1 of our shoot. There wasn't much to film, this was because it was just the setup and most of the vendors were scheduled for the next however it was good for me just to fly around and scout the area. As a drone pilot, this is key, because in a busy area such as Dartford Park that not only has tall trees but is full of people, which are the main priority. It was a bit of a struggle for me to use my drone because, whilst using the remote control I do have to keep my fingers on it the whole time, that was even worse on that day because it was very cold. Doing this on day 1 has helped me realise for future projects that I will use my drone for it is hard working in a busy professional environment. Even after these minor issues, I do think I got a lot out of it for the Edit as well as a great experience for my future as a Drone pilot.
Rags asked Miskin Media to film the raffle. This was used the next day to pick out fifty-two winners for general prizes. During filming, he got a couple of people to help him do the raffle included one of our own. Emily was mainly chosen because she is the ambassador for the production team.
Here we started to film the setup of the bonfire which took a lot of man-hours to complete even with a lorry loader. From the view of a camera operator, it was a great way to see what it will be like the following day to film.
Day 2 The Final Shoot
Today went nothing like I expected it too. When we set up everything was good, me and Elliot started to empty the equipment for the shoot. Myself and Elliot decided to organize the equipment into two sides. One is the Film side, with all of the cameras, battery and general camera accessories. The second side was for all of the interview equipment. This was a good idea at the time however during the night it became apparent that it was going to become hard. It began when we started to do some filming for Rags around the event. We started at the food vendors, however when we started to record one of the vendors made an inappropriate comment towards which was highly unprofessional. We did have to power through after the comment and move on to the other vendors. We did get some good shots of the vendors in the end after the minor calamities. After this I started to film using my drone, I think it looked very atmospheric in the night with all of the vendors light up. However sadly yet again there was another major accident. My drone crashed into one of the metal fences where the bonfire was lit. To me, this was one of the biggest failures of the night because I would have got some spectacular shots with my drone of all the fireworks and bonfire. After this, we did some interviews with some of the public that was actually good because it was nice to get the opinion of how the night was going so far. We also did some interviews in one of the meeting buildings of some of the people working at the event. They were present, it was just a bit annoying with Rags keep putting more people to us for interviews, this is because it became more stressful for some of us, to keep up with filming and taking care of other people. After we completed the interviews we got word that the mayor was only a couple of minutes away and Rags rushed us all to film her getting out of the car and a small interview of her. Myself and Maddie rushed over there and also got our producer Emily to jump on a camera which sadly didn't work out because she is not a great camera operator which is no fault of her own because she is only a producer and a radio specialist. Whilst filming the event I had a bit of an issue with heat, not surprisingly the bonfire was too hot to stand too close for too long whilst filming. Which wasn't too bad because I still did get a couple of nice shots. After this, the main event was up. The fireworks filming was okay to shoot. We also
Here I shad a bit of a problem with the black magic edit due to it being a bit over exposed with the raw file. The two images on the left show the different colour grading options that I had to choose between. The top one was good because it showed more of the ground however the fire was very over exposed for me. The image below shows a darkened version, of the same clip but it doesn't show as much detail of the people at the event.
This past of the edit with text for the Bonfire part. It was difficult to edit this because of the bright background which is the fire. This was a big issue for me and thanks to Jessie with a great idea to add a shadow to the text. This made it more visible against the bright background. This is shown by the image above and the other is a clear comparison.
I have been working on the interview edit. After an issue with Nathan not completing the edit due to his high work load from other projects and not enough guidance the edit was given me to complete.
These are the edits that Rags asked for. The only difference is the beginning text that is very long and from the perspective of a videographer, it is not good. It is far too long and perspective, the whole crew collectedly decided it was too long. However, it was what the client wanted so there was no option but to put it in regardless as to what we think about it. . So this is the final edit and it has been sent to Rags. He is pleased with the videos we have now produced from him and we are now finished with the Dartford Lions President Rags. This has made me learn for future projects to make sure to listen to what the client wants and make sure that they know what product they will get. After this madness editing process, I know now to just give no more than 1-2 editing alterations to a client otherwise the project becomes too much and becomes a huge distraction from other work
