Potential Competitors Analysis
Who are they?
My competition is Admark Productions. They were founded in 1984 and have been in business ever since as an affordable company for promotion videos across the United kingdom. Due to the fact they have been going for so many years, people may choose them over me because have do have many years of experience of running my own business. However, I have worked with a few clients before that have loved my work and I have also created lots of films myself that have a couple of them have won awards.
Where are they from?
They are based in Hertfordshire. Even though they are far away from me they are still a threat. I would like to travel around the United kingdom for projects so no matter the distance from my base they are still a threat to me.
What do they offer?
Being a big company they have even more professional equipment. On their website, they have over ten examples of their clients that had promotion videos made froe them. However I offer more than just promotion videos, I can offer photography, promotion videos and short films.
How much do they cost?
Their prices do vary between projects. I have been browsing different websites and other freelancers in the same business as me and on average it is about £50 per hour. This lower-end price does help me because some people have a limited budget for hiring people so that is where i can come into the mix for those clients.
How successful are they?
As a brand they ar every successful because they have been going for over thirty years. There many years of exeprice may be an issue to me because I am just starting off in the industry.
This company may not be an imidate threat. However, looking at this company has given me lots of knowledge about the industry. I have learnt that I can grow from this business to suit my goals. Such as their use of certain strongest filming style, Cars. Linking back to me one of my top strengths as a videographer is the ability to get great drone shots which adds a whole new dimension to a video.
Will Night Video
Who are they?
Will Night Video, is a freelance videographer. He has been in the industry for over 14 years. This may be an issue for me because when people look for videographers it is usually down to experience that gets you the job. However, it can also be based on the work that has been created, which in my opinion is not as good as mine.
Where are they from?
He is from the south of the United Kingdom. He does travel all around had doesn't have a set perimeter for his work. So I think this is good for me because it keeps him free from all local clients as not all clients are in the south.
What do they offer?
He has interesting packages on his page. Unlike some videographers, he does multiple packages for people with various budgets. Basic gives the customer a 2-minute video with music and colour grading. Then there is a standard package, which offers a 5-minute video that gives the customer full colour grading and video effects as well as two revisions. Finally, he offers a Premium package, which includes a 30-minute video with full editing standards and up to four revisions. This is a great eye opener for me to look into these types of packages for me to offer a customer. It is a great way to reach more customers that either have a small budget or a larger budget that look for those various packages to consider.
How much do they cost?
He has different packages that are a great thing to offer a customer. Basic from £15.63. Standard from £78.17. Premium £156.35. These packages are clearly laid out on his site to show exactly what the customer will be getting for their money.
How successful are they?
Will Night Video, is a freelance videographer. He has been doing this for over 14 years.
This freelancer has had much more experience than me, over 14 years. However, compared to me I have much more fresh ideas which would put me over the edge as a competitor. He has made some nice looking videos and this has given me some more ideas and thoughts on the way I edit so researching him and comparing him to me has helped me understand even more about the multiple editing styles and looks for every videographer.
Barney Finch
Who are they?
Freelance automotive videographer with 3 years of experience. He also is a photographer for motor vehicles. Both of these are what I am interested. He has made lots of videos of cars and even I must say they are excellent.
Where are they from?
He is from Oxford, which is only 2 hours away so for a freelancer it is the competition to me. I will be able to travel around the United Kingdom so he will be a competitor to me.
What do they offer?
Barney offer various packages to customers depending on their budget. A basic package that includes up to a 1-minute video with full-colour grading and sound design/mixing. The standard pages offer the apart from an offer for one revision, this means that if the customer is not happy with the product they are able to ask for another edit.
How much do they cost?
Depending on the package that the customer purchases it his services cost from £19.54 for the Basic package. For the standard package, it costs 23.45 which is one of the most popular ones. Finally, the premium package is £27.36which gives the customer 30 minutes worth of footage, I think he is a competitor to me because of his packages and skills as another person in my industry however I think that I can offer a bit more to the customer such as videos longer than 1 minute.
How successful are they?
Looking at his videos he has been successful in his business. He has worked for many different clients that have left him good reviews so he has built up a positive reputation for himself. However I have more to offer as a videographer.
This videographer is one of the top competitors in the eyes of visuals. He does pretty much the same style of videos and photography as myself. So this has given me a lot to think about because there is always someone doing the same as you, but I have actually found that person and he is not that far from me in perspective.
Jacob Cameron Hill
Who are they?
He is a freelance videographer like myself.
Where are they from?
He is from Dartford so he is one of the biggest competition to me at the moment.
What do they offer?
He offers a similar kind of service like me. Offering mainly photography which I will also be offering to customers.
How much do they cost?
At the moment he is working for free and does not have a set price like me. However in the future, it is likely we will charge similar rates making us close competitors.
How succesful are they?
He has been successful in getting experience in the industry as well as being a good camera operator. However he does not have as much experience as me as a photographer and cinematographer.
Jacob is a great videographer and has worked on some excellent projects. He has made quite a name for himself. He also is great at editing especially video effects, which I am very interested in developing.
Who are they?
This company is a collaboration between two of my classmates Elliot and Sam. They have created this company from the group up this year so they are new to the business.

L4 Productions S.W.O.T Analysis
Today our tutor Grahame gave our class a production name, L4 Productions. He then told us that we all need to give suggestions for a S.W.O.T analysis of the class. This was hard because we had to say what our weaknesses are in the industry which is always hard because I think it is always nice to feel the best or to sometimes ignore our weaknesses however, this is no way to grow so it is a great way understand our weaknesses and improve on them. There was a lot of and diverse suggestions put forward but all were valid and had to be discussed. There is still the Strengths category to look at, which there are a lot. This is good to keep on track with them and stay positive for the future, one of the most important and strengths of the class is planning. This is the most crucial part of production, and it is one of our strengths. There are a lot of opportunities for L4 Productions. This is mainly because as a college group we are offering free services at the moment, this is to build up our clientele and reputation. This is why I am so eager to make sure every project goes well and is up to excellent standards. I also have a contact in a company based in central London called Dentsu Ageis. This may be helpful for future studio tours for the group to learn how a real set works and even jobs. There are a lot of threats in this industry so it is often hard to get clients, especially with not a lot of experience. I know this from experice. I craeted a promotion video for a local company called All Night Cars. They often questioned our abilities being younger videographers. Not only experice being the problem, there are so many people freelancing and shooting low level productions like us. Also being a college production team, we are also competing against other colleges that film promotion videos for clients too.
After we completed the S.W.O.T analysis, our Tutor Grahame told us that we had to discuss how we can develop our strengths, improve on our weaknesses, keep looking for opportunities and look at our threats and see how we can make us as a team better than them. After we chose the most relevant S.W.O.T'S we gave each box a strongest to less strong, this was to see how we can work on them to get all the strongest.

Question 1 (How can we build on our strengths in place?)
We looked at all of our strengths and numbered them from 1-4. After doing this we further discussed how we can improve each one. The first (Increasing our skillset). This meant that because we have such a diverse class with all different skill sets it is sometimes a bit difficult for Radio people to quickly jump on a camera. Which did happen during the Dartford fireworks, however we have learnt from that. Secondly we discussed (Planning). This is the most crucial part of any production. It is a strong point for our group. WHen we did the Dartford Fireworks event as a collective the group had a huge amount of planning for it. However we did nit have a Plan B. This is the second most important thing of a production because if anything goes wrong we will have have planned for it and come up with a contingacy. Yet again some things did go at the Dartford FIrewwpeks so after this we have learnt from our mistakes and now know we need to have two plans. Also because we had an issue with roles we are now going to set individual roles to people and to possibly source external people if we need to.

Question 2 (How can we eliminate weaknesses?)
After looking at our weaknesses as a class and numbering them from 1-5, we went through and discussed how we can eliminate them. First we said that we need to consider sourcing other people from Level 3 Creative Media TV & Film. This will help producers keep more clam during production instead of chasing after people to switch roles and assist other people. We will also be able to be more strict with the roles, so with more people working on a production it will most likely go much more smoothly. Thsi will be imperative for big clients that can be very demanding and require lots of coverage. Secondly after the major issue with equipment management during the Dartford Fireworks event we have now learnt that we must have a technitiojns for all equipment that leaves and goes back into the tent. Thsi will be a great improvement for future productions to go much more smoothly. Finally I the most important weakness that we need to improve on, wich is the groups communication skills. After the Dartford Fireworks event it became apparent that mostly everpone didn't have a clear understanding on what they were actually supposed to be working on even though we went through it the day before. So in future we will be having more board meetings with all crew every time ewe make new plansor have brain storming sessions for projects. Another way of communication that mist be taken on board is for people not to sure on what to do for a production is to speak to a producer.

Question 3 (How can we recognise and take advantage of opportunities?)
As a group we have a lot to offer to clients. At the moment L4 Productions are looking at in hours clients. Howver we are also keeping up to date for looking at upcoming events to possible film. We are offering our services for free at this time to just get experience, wich is great for a client because it is free promotion material. Secondly we will be collaberating with our social media experts Liberty and Megan to get our name out there and to get valid research to help us with future clients. Fianlly as a group we must help eachotehr out so we have discussed to keep our eye out for work just just for our speciality but for others because it may not just help them because after a project someby else has worked on, there may end up being another line of work available. This will give L4 Productions more opportunities for multiple clients.

Question 4 (How can we minimise or eliminate threats?)
Lots of our threats do link in with our weaknesses as a group. First as students we are always in compotrions in house students and even students from other colleges because they will also be offering free videos for experience. However to get around this we decided it would be a good idea to possibly collaborate with some of our competition, which is win for everyone. Secondly due to Covid 19 effecting the whole plants regulations of travel and entering certain events, the Vaccine is an important thing to have. Thsi is because a lot of events are no washing for a Covid passport to prove that your are safe to enter. However a couple of people in our group do not have other vaccine which effects everyone, so this has to be delt with promptly. Also networking with established companies that make there own promotion videos (DIY), are good targets. This is beacuse once looking at some of our videos it is most likely to make hem understand how therecurrent videos need improvement. Experince in this business is the up most important thing to have when working with clients or just searching for them. This is why we are trying to build up our clientele. On a few locations i have personally had some problems with clients questioning my ability because I don't not have a lot of experience in video production. This is why it is imperative to get clients and get positive testimonials.
My personal S.W.O.T
Strengths
Although I have six strengths listed they can always be improved. My skills as a camera operator are very good at the moment but linking back to my weaknesses there is a small technique of being a camera operator that I can improve on which is fast-tracking, which I and going to be able to improve on soon. I have made a few short films that has had excellent reviews so I think my production skills are good. However, working alongside other producers recently for the Darftod Lions Fireworks event I have come to learn that I can improve it even more by collaborating with people to get other fresh ideas. So with will help me in my future projects such as an upcoming project that is being finalised and I am getting to start the full production for it soon. I don't think there is much for me to work on with preproduction planning because I believe that I am already good at it and have no major issues with it, however, I think one of the only things that I could improve on for planning is a Plan B, which I leant from during the Dartford Lions Fireworks event.

Weaknesses
I have had a lot of experience in the past few months to improve my skills in media. My editing skills have only come into play with the Dartford Lions Fireworks event. This was rather easy for me because it was only a short edit so it was not that challenging for me. However, I do have a couple of projects coming up for me to be able to improve my editing skills further. My camera skills are good at the moment but in the future, I will need a very wide range of camera techniques, such as fast-paced shots. I have done these before with a drone and far away however it is a lot harder for close-ups for focusing reasons and the general look of the shot. To improve this my colleague Emily has found me potential work for a classic car company so I will then be able to work on my fast paced camera skills, which will benefit me hugely in the future. Audio mixing in the filming industry is the second most important thing on a project because with no sound the whole project is over. So this is why I have requested some help from some of the people in my class that are audio experts. So this will allow me to get a further understanding to get the best quality audio of all my future projects that I may not have a lot of help on.

Opportunites
Having contacts at Dentsu will be hugely beneficial for me because they always have new well-known clients working with them such as Cadburys and Gravendale, that I worked on during my time at the company for a week. This may open new doors to me from in the far future me. I do have some clients in mind that I can possibly contact for promotion videos. Such as my friend that has his own football club. Hes has been running this club for nearly a decade now. This means he has lots of experice and now has a well established business well known in the community. Fillimng a promotion video for him will not on;ly promote his business but me too. His facebook has a lot of great contacts that may be in the filming industry, so this is a great opportunity for me. Lining back to hw this can help me progress my skills, it will rslly help my videography techniques. Filming fotbal is rather hard because it includes mostly fast paced shots whichpersonally I would like to improve on. There are multiple in house clients for me to contact for promotions however t the moment with my coursework and final presentation coming up at the end of this term I am holding out until the new year for any further research into in house work, I have others lined up outside that may even be better for me. My tutor Grahame has found some work for me based at the coast. It is about an Environmentalist. He wants to promote the strategy that is happing to the world and our beaches. This will include videography ad photography which is a great opportunity for me to develop both of my skill seven further at the same time.

Threats
At the moment there are a couple of in house threats. The first is Super 8 studios. This company was founded this year by Elliot Offwood and Sam Collier. They are in the same kind of media sector as me. They are offering promotion content for local clients for free at the moment like I am. So this is a bit of an issue for me because of them being so close and accessible to most of my future clients. However, I believe I may have a bit of an edge with my experience in creating content for clients. I also have a competitor in the photography side of my business venture. Maddie Golding is a photographer that is only just starting off as an actual company so she does not have much experience or social presence at the moment so stating with this she may not be a big threat however the one thing that is to me is clients. We both have mostly the same clients in mind so it is down to the client to choose between the two of us. However to overcome this not only do I have a social presence to show off my skills but I also have decided to collaborate with her whilst doing some photography with clients. So not only am I getting experience working with others I am also showing the clients how I work and the product that I can give them, that may choose me in the future.

In summary, I do have a lot to think about in my long journey of becoming a freelance videographer. So by creating this SWOT analysis of myself will give me the drive and knowledge to grow and succeed.
